Accelerated Rural Development Organization (ARDO) with a grant from Global Environment Facility, Small Grants Program of UNDP held a workshop to Assess & Reposition the Weto Platform for more sustainable environmental conservation along the Akwapim Togo Mountain Range.
The Weto Platform formed in 2014 is a coalition of 32 CSOs, Traditional Authorities, Academia and Individual Advocates reviewed its performance of the past years and brainstormed on what to do to strengthen it.
The Special Guests of honour were Dr. George Ortsin the former National Coordinator of GEF-SGP of UNDP and Osie Adza Tekpor VII, the Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional Area. In his opening address, the Executive Director of ARDO welcomed all for honoring the invitation, expressed their gratitude to UNDP for their support and took the opportunity to outline the key targets of the project.
The Weto Platform, the brainchild of Dr. George Ortsin, in his address outlined the key indicators of the Platform over past 12 years. He stated that the Weto Platform has positive impact on the landscape which should be harnessed for the prosperity of the people. The workshop facilitated by Mr. Vincent Awetoe-Pratt came out with key outputs as:
- Strengthen the governance system of Weto Platform
- Establish strategic working committees
- Operate a transparent Secretariat
- Set clear Strategic and Action Plans among others.
The Osie in his closing statement encouraged all to double their efforts towards an operational platform that should be recognized in all environmental decision-making processes at community, direct, regional and national levels concerning the Weto landscape.
